What is the windows registry?
The windows registry is where all the settings and information are stored for windows.
Yes everything from the serial numbers that you entered, the settings for the screen, the settings for your wallpaper ,the list files that you last used are stored in there.
But that's not all, all the settings for windows itself are in the registry, all the settings for all the programs that you've installed are in the registry. The settings for windows itself, how to display web content, what printers you've setup, what driver to load to make your web cam work....everything!
Every thing you do in windows will add, delete or change entries in the registry:

look for problems and correct them before they cause you trouble. Or
if you're having trouble they can get your windows back to working.
